Tools Of The Craft

Altar
an Altar is an elevated and sacred space for worship and magical workings. The Altar represents the element Earth. It can be decorated to embody the practitioner and their needs as a Witch. This space can be decorated accordingly if you follow the Wheel of the Year or just how you want it.
Athame
a ceremonial black handed knife that is primarily used for rituals and represents the element Fire. Traditionally the blade wasn't used for physical cutting but to direct energy during a ceremony, involving the Quarters and for Casting The Circle rituals.
Bell
the bell is a tool used to call the beginning & end of a Ritual in many traditions. It is used to banish & clear many energies. The Element of this tool defers depending on who may use it - It is associated with Air or Water.
Besom
also called 'The Witch's Broom', is a tool for purifying and cleansing a Witch's sacred or ritual space. This tool represents the elements Air or Water depending on the Witch. The Besom is important in Handfasting ceremonies as the couple would jump over the broom.
Boline
this is a white handled knife that is primarily used for cutting in a Witch's work. This could be cutting ribbon, carving candles, cutting herbs, and many other wonderful things that a Witch may need it for. Some practitioners may not use a Boline.
Book of Shadows
the most important tool of the Witch. This magical book is an embodiment of ourselves and our path. The Witch logs everything from the start of their path throughout their life. You may add what your heart desires related to your Craft.
Cauldron
a cast iron pot that is primarily used to create potions, powders, salts, & other recipes. This tool can be used to burn incense and herbs for ritualistic reasons. The cauldron can be used in scrying. The Element this tool represents is both Water and Earth.
Chalice
the Chalice also represents the Water element. This tool can be a symbol of containment in some rituals and rites. The liquid that sits in the chalice may defer between who uses this ritualistic tool.
Stang
A fork shaped staff that represents the horned one (God). The Stang aids in spirit flight & directing and raising energy. The Element it represents is all of them. The tool is often made of ash but the practitioner can choose to have one made from other woods & is decorated how the witch sees fit.
Wand
also representing the element Air, the wand is used to direct energy and/or intentions into a Witch's spellwork and rituals. The material of the wand defers depending on the witch. The ideal length of the wand is the same size as the elbow to the tip of your middle finger but again this will defer depending on the practitioner.
